CESTOS 2 BETA OPINIONS

Postby Rudeboi » Mon Oct 04, 2010 4:49 pm

So far, after playing the Cestos 2 beta, I have found that the game play feels very weird. I can't even control the arrows with my trackball anymore. (I still use the G1 phone). I'm not too fond of the target practice or the star collecting maps.
I like the interface of the original cestos. Original cestos looked more futuristic. This cestos looks like its geared for smaller kids with all the colors, and stars and hearts.
Another problem is that there is pretty much no measure of true skill in this Cestos 2. Anyone can get lucky in every map and win. At least in the original cestos, u can tell when someone is skilled and when someone is a newbie. In this new cestos 2 beta, a level 1 player can pretty much get lucky and beat anyone.
One thing that I like is that in the blackhole and minefield maps, u have two of ur marbles on one side and one marble on the opposite side from the start. This makes it for a more offensive game and takes away from people trying to hide on their sides all the time.
I know this is a beta but I prefer the layout of the original cestos. I like the maps with grey colors instead of all the bright colors.

I'm curious to know how everyone else feels about this Cestos 2 beta so far...

It doesn't matter where it gets posted. This is for the chickenbrick people to read and for the players to post their opinions.

I just played the update. I like the coins earning system. But I still don't like the target map or the star map.
The pinball map is ok but I lose a lot of times because of the random placement of the pinball bumpers. Sometimes the placement is advantageous to my opponent. So its all luck.
It would be nice if we could add a player during a game. The menu button doesn't do anything while you are in a game. And it would be nice if we could chat at the end of the game at the scoreboard screen.
Also, in the lobby, you can't tell the difference between friends and non-friends. In original cestos, your friends name and text becomes green.
What do u all think?

I will take Cestos 1 over this beta anyday, and even though the beta is work-in-progress, it has a LONG LONG way to go before it can even match Cestos 1, forget bringing anything extra to the table.

The weird gameplay feel was enough to put me off totally, and combined with the dumbing-down of the existing maps and introduction of complete random luck factor based maps like starcollector and pinball, all I could do was go back to playing the original Cestos.

I'm really hoping that Cestos 1 is continued, would hate to have my favourite game replaced by this.

There are wayyyy too many people who feel the same way. The gameplay of Cestos 1 is still better than Cestos 2 so far.
I like the addition of OpenFeint, the ability to choose the number of players, and the avatars look ok. But the gameplay is the main thing. The pinball bumpers, locations of the stars that give the most points and the targets are all placed randomly. So this makes it all luck. Not real skill.
This is what I think is gonna happen... All the old school elite players are gonna stick with original Cestos and all the newbies and the teenagers who used to clog up the lobby in original cestos with their spam and immaturity, are going to move on to Cestos 2, unless the next update for Cestos 2 adapts a more Original Cestos-like gameplay.

Here are some suggestions or changes I would make for Cestos 2 to at least fix it up slightly:

1) The Target map is probably the least popular map. So I would remove the Target map and replace it with a Sumo map with a circular area instead of a rectangular are like in the original. Real sumo wrestler's fight in a circular area. Lol Then it would make more sense to call it sumo.
2) Keep the Pinball map but have stationary bumpers instead of moving the bumpers to random areas in each game.
3) The Star collecting map is not very popular but if it's not gonna be removed, then at least place the stars in stationary spots so that players can think of strategic ways to prevent their opponents from getting the stars while collecting stars of their own to win.

Once again, this goes without saying but we all appreciate all the work that CBS has put in for us to enjoy their games but so far, original Cestos is more fun. I can't lie, I like the coins aspect also and I would love to unlock all the accessories too. But the gameplay is the biggest issue.

I agree with Da Champ. Cestos 2 needs major updates. I say they should add the original cestos maps onto cestos 2 and make minor changes to them. Also, make some maps 3 and 4 player, like 4 player minefield and 3 player stoplight. Lastly, keep the customizations, coin concept, and OpenFient. :)

I think the target map could be actually quite interesting if the targets didnt keep re-appearing at random places....

The problem with things appearing at random, is that you can't plan ahead.

For the stars and target maps, this can be solved easily. Instead of showing just the current target, it could show a faded/semitransparent/smaller/greyscale/etc target at the location where it's going to appear NEXT round. For stars, this can be done as well.

That way you'd know what's gonna happen next round and you won't have to hate yourself for not being near the 'random' spawns.

For pinball you could do the same but it doesn't happen very often that new bumpers spawn (only when two are tied for 1st) so it doesn't really solve the problem.
The fixed bumper location suggestion seems to be the best one.

I can't even control the arrows with my trackball anymore. (I still use the G1 phone).

I'm using the G1 and the trackball works just fine for me.

1) The Target map is probably the least popular map. So I would remove the Target map and replace it with a Sumo map with a circular area instead of a rectangular are like in the original. Real sumo wrestler's fight in a circular area. Lol Then it would make more sense to call it sumo

I actually like the target map a lot and would hate to see it go. I'll agree that it's hardly any fun when playing 1v1 but with 3 players it can be pretty challenging.

I'd like to end by saying that I really like Cestos 2. I'm glad it's so different from the first. After all, if I want to enjoy the old game and its gameplay, all I have to do is play the old game.

Agreed. If the targets were fixed on to the map instead of disappearing and reappearing near your opponents, it would make for a more competitive and strategic map. Instead of just based on luck.
